Ecco the Dolphin spiritual successor The Big Blue hits Kickstarter

The team behind Ecco the Dolphin has launched a Kickstarter campaign for The Big Blue, a spiritual successor of the 1992 Sega-published classic.

The Kickstarter page unveils the title as an all new underwater action adventure title, with Ecco’s original designer Ed Annunziata heading up the campaign that’s seeking $665k to fund the game.

The Big Blue will have players exploring, completing quests, collecting and spawning life forms and, of course, solving puzzles. If funded, the title will be developed for PC, Mac, iOS, and Android.

"While this game isn’t based on the original Ecco the Dolphin series, it is the next evolutionary step in underwater adventure games," said Annunziata. "We want to make something epic. Something with smooth game controls, deep backstory, emphasis on exploration and artificial life."

At time of writing, the Kickstarter has brought in just under $21k from 239 backers, with 34 days left to go.
