Empire confirms takeover talks

In a brief statement to the City, the UK full-price and budget publisher confirmed: “The Board announces that it is currently in discussion with a number of parties which may or may not lead to an offer being made for the company."

MCV understands that both VU Games and former Take 2 boss Kelly Sumner’s Red Octane are interested.  The US rights to the firm's budget operation are known to be attractive, and industry speculation today suggested that bids of around $8 million had been placed.

At the time of writing, shares in Empire Interactive were up 33 per cent to 7.00p.
