Giant independent television production company Endemol has finalised a deal that will see its hugely popular quiz show The Money Drop sold to media outlets globally with a special game as part of the package.
The online game that is key to the deal, crafted by digital gaming specialist Visiware, is designed to be accessed by players live and simultaneously with the show's broadcast in each respective territory.
The deal was formed with Endemol Worldwide Brands and Visiware, and purports to offer the world's first game show to be internationally sold incorporating a suite of built in digital game extensions.
“This is the first time a global format has been sold internationally as a complete multiplatform ‘ecosystem’," confirmed Olivier Gers, CEO of Endemol Worldwide Brands.
"It creates a brilliantly simple and cost effective solution to delivering The Money Drop as a unique multiplatform experience in any territory. We believe this adds significant value to the format and are extremely pleased to see leading broadcasters like ZDF already reaping the benefits.”
Visiware president Laurant Weill added: "We are really happy and proud to have been chosen by Endemol for the development of this massive multiplayer play along game and its extensions. We believe that this is the next generation of live in-show interactive TV.”
The Money Drop was originally created by Endemol UK and debuted earlier this year on Channel 4. The games will be ready for global roll out from this autumn, can be tailored to any market and are expected to eventually see release on iPhone and iPad after initial availability on broadcaster websites and social networks.
