Epic shuts down Impossible Studios, Infinity Blade: Dungeons delayed

Epic Games has closed Infinity Blade: Dungeons developer Impossible Studios, delaying the iOS title indefinitely.

Epic's founder Tim Sweeney announced the news in a post on Epic's official site. The studio formerly known as Epic Baltimore came together last August after the 38 Studios disaster destroyed development studio Big Huge Games in its wake.

"When former members of Big Huge Games approached Epic last year, we saw the opportunity to help a great group of people while putting them to work on a project that needed a team," Sweeney wrote. "It was a bold initiative and the Impossible folks made a gallant effort, but ultimately it wasn't working out for Epic."

Sweeney added that Impossible Studios employees would be provided three months severance pay, and that they were allowed use of the Impossible Studios name and logo in the case that a new company is formed.

While the company plans on discussing the future of Infinity Blade: Dungeons, no word beyond an unspecified push back for the project was mentioned. The game had previously been developed by Epic's North Carolina-based studio.
