Brisbane-based company Euclideon has demonstrated its new voxel engine allegedly capable of 100'000 times better graphics than exist today.
The engine maps the objects in a game world as a series of individual points rather than a series of polygons, and claims to be able to do away with the polygon budget entirely by coding game worlds as '3D atoms' rather than series' of shapes.
Euclideon released a video showcasing the technology on Monday, which has received overwhelmingly positive reponses, as well as disbelief and outright criticism, with Markus 'Notch' Persson, creator of Minecraft, going so far as to call it a scam.
Bruce Dell, CEO of Euclideon, told MCV: "This demoinstration was supposed to be a 1 year report for the developers we're in contact with and also for our supporters so they know we haven't disappeared. We did not expect it to snow ball in the way that it has."
Euclideon formed in 2009 as a duo, and has since grown to 9 people and received one of the largest government grants in Australia ever handed out to a videogame technology company.
