Europe drives record Q2 for EA

Whilst US revenue climbed 16 per cent to $512 million for the quarter ending September 30th, European revenue soared to $245 million, a rise of 28 per cent. In contrast, Asian revenue fell 34 per cent to $27 million.

Overall net revenue for the period was $784 million, up from $675 million in the same period last year. Gross profit rose 14 per cent to $445 million. However, there was a drop in net income, falling from $51 million to $22 million, a statistic EA attributed to a new share based payment plan it introduced at the beginning of the year.

EA also claims to be the number one publisher on Xbox 360, with quarterly revenue on that machine reaching $166 million.

"This was a strong quarter for EA,” stated chief financial and administrative officer Warren Jones. “While our industry remains in the midst of transition, the landscape looks strong enough that we are able to increase our guidance range for the year.”

Q3 revenues are predicted to be between $1.2 billion and $1.3 billion, with yearly results of between $2.95 billion and $3.125 billion.
