EVO 2013 brings in record 1.7m Twitch.tv viewers

Annual fighting game tournament EVO was more popular than ever in 2013, according to broadcast partner Twitch.tv.

Joystiq reports on a statement from Twitch’s VP of marketing Matthew DiPietro, who revealed record breaking figures for the Vegas-based event.

"It was nearly fifty percent higher than last year’s EVO, which was the previous record holder," DiPietro said.

"1.7m tuned in during the course of the weekend."

On top of that, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 reached nearly 145k simultaneous viewers – a record for concurrent viewership of a specific title.

Super Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition also brought in an estimated 125k spectators at the same time, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl saw 134k simultaneous viewers as well.
