Facebook and Google to debate app payments

In-app payments, near field communication, virtual items and Facebook Credits will be some of the topics at the Monetising Mobile conference in just under
two weeks’ time.

Monetising Mobile: Exploring Opportunities in Mobile Payments is hosted by MCV’s stablemate Mobile Entertainment.

It will take a close look at this topical sector, with execs from Google, Facebook, Visa and more providing expert insights into the market.

There will be plenty to engage the games industry, which has embraced mobile in the app ‘era’. This week, market watcher NPD said mobile now accounts for half of all digital game downloads by volume. And with ideas such as in-app payments, rental and ‘try before you buy’ still in their infancy, there’s new revenue to come.

But there’s more to the mobile channel than just games. Publishers of online titles are starting to offer the phone bill as a payment channel alongside credit cards and PayPal.

And further ahead lies NFC, the contactless tech that lets the phone pay for physical goods.

All subjects will be under discussion at the upcoming Monetising Mobile. Confirmed speakers include:

* Amanda Rosenberg, associate business development manager for mobile, Google (EMEA)
* Fergal Walker, head of mobile partnerships, Facebook EMEA
* Mary Carol Harris, VP of innovation and new product, Visa Europe Mobile
* David Sheridan, director, market development at OpenMarket
* James Patmore, MD of EMEA, Boku
Monetising Mobile takes place on Wednesday, May 25th at BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London.

It starts at 4.30pm, finishes late and costs just £229 to attend. Delegates get dinner and drinks in addition to the presentations.

Monetising Mobile is supported by a number of partner companies.

The Platinum Partner is OpenMarket, while the Premium Gold Partners are Nokia and InMobi.

Gold Partners are Visa, TPay from Tanla and Mach, and the Silver Partners are Bango and AppSnips.
