Facebook signs Warner movie partnership

Facebook and Warner Bros have announced a partnership that will see the latter’s movies made available for rental or purchase with Facebook Credits.

The first flick covered by the new deal will be The Dark Knight, with more to be added in the coming months. Rentals will give users access to their selected films for 40 hours and cost $3, of which Facebook will take a 30 per cent cut, according Industry Gamers.

Business Insider reports that the news has already seen a dip in Netflix’s shares and it has been suggested the effects could also be felt by the major consoles. Both Microsoft and Sony offer film streaming services – Netflix for the two consoles in the US, and Lovefilm for the PS3 in the UK. A Netflix film service has also been confirmed for 3DS and Wii.

Facebook Credits have also attracted the attention of games publishers. Back in November, EA signed a five-year deal with the social network to use its credits as the exclusive payment method for any Electronic Arts games on Facebook.
