FIFA for Nintendo Switch is based on PS3/360 version, rumour says

The Switch version of FIFA has been subject to many speculations since the game was announced during Nintendo’s conference last week. According to Eurogamer’s Tom Phillips, the title will be based off of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of FIFA, he said on Twitter (see below).

EA was prompt to react, with EA COO Peter Moore repeating that the title will be custom built for Nintendo Switch”, as stated by EA executive vice president Patrick Sderlund during Nintendo’s conference:

Phillips then answered: ‘Custom built’ was wording Patrick Sderlund used during Switch presentation, too – but let’s see how it looks in reality later this year.”

FIFA is due to launch on Switch in 2017, but Nintendo has not revealed the exact release date. What’s fairly sure is that it won’t be a launch title, since those have been confirmed by Nintendo and FIFA was not included in the list.

Here’s the full transcript of Sderlund’s speech during Nintendo’s conference, which was then released on EA’s website:

It’s a huge honour and privilege to be here today representing the passionate and talented team at Electronic Arts. For me, to be on this stage is like a dream come true. For as long as I’ve played games, I’ve been a massive fan of the Nintendo platforms and amazing culture of creativity… so much so that when my first son was born, my wife and I gave him the middle name Luigi! So today, we’re extremely excited to announce that the world’s most popular sports game will be coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.

EA Sports FIFA on Nintendo Switch will be the most immersive, social, and authentic sports game ever created for Nintendo players. It will deliver the FIFA experience custom built for Nintendo Switch… so you can play anywhere, play with anyone, and play how you want to play.

If you’re at the park, at your friend’s house, or on vacation, you can always stay connected to the biggest matches. You’ll be able to get on the pitch with your favourite players and teams from the world’s best leagues in iconic stadiums from around the world… all with the unmatched authenticity and depth that FIFA is known for.

We’ll have much more to say and show in the coming months as we bring the world’s game to Nintendo Switch in 2017.”
