The International Game Developer's Association (IGDA) Game Accessibility Special Interest Group has partnered with Film Victoria.
The partnership follows discussion about how to implement requirements for accessibility into games which receive funding from Film Victoria's Game Investment Program. Funding provided for successful Victoria-based applicants can receive up to AUD$100'000 as long as it is no more than 50% of the game's total budget.
Film Victoria and the IGDA Game Accessibility SIG are aiming to not only implement requirements for accessibility in games, but also provide appropriate funding to design, develop and test accessibility projects.
The IGDA Game Accessibility SIG believe the collaboration is likely a world first, stating on their web site: "We are all very excited, and are proud to see Film Victoria setting a precedent for government funded games internationally!"
Film Victoria has previously been responsible for providing funding to some Australia's most successful indie developers including Firemint and Iron Monkey (now both major Australian studios owned by EA).
Applications for the next round of funding for the Game Investment Program close on 24th October.
