The chances are that by now you've probably heard of Flappy Bird
It's a basic (but seemingly addictive) mobile game that's been consuming users' lives having dominated the top of the App Store and Google Play for the past month. It's sudden rise to popularity is particularly interesting considering it was released in May 2013, and has called some naysayers to claim bots are behind the surge.
And now, Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen tells The Verge that Flappy Bird is generating $50,000 from in-app ads each day from 50m downloads. Said Ngyuen: "The reason Flappy Bird is so popular is that it happens to be something different from mobile games today, and is a really good game to compete against each other."
