Flimsy wrist straps force Nintendo recall

The BBC is reporting that the announcement has come from the Japanese firm following multiple complaints of damage caused by controllers flying out of player’s hands.

Nintendo spokesperson Yasuhiro Minagawa is quoted in the Associated Press as saying: "We are announcing the recall of 3.2 million straps for the Wii computer remote controllers. The decision comes after reports that some users in the United States threw their controllers when playing with Wii sports software.”

The recall is effective across sales in every region of the world, currently believed to encompass over three million units. There have been claims on the internet that a new, sturdier wrist strap has already started appearing alongside newer shipments of the console.

In addition, Nintendo has also recalled 200,000 AC adapters for the DS and DS Lite in Japan, though European and American models are not affected.
