Forza Horizon 3 has sold over 2.5m units and the Forza franchise as a whole has made over $1bn in retail sales worldwide, Microsoft announced this afternoon.

The Xbox One-exclusive racing series met its respective milestones in December 2016, Turn 10 Studios Studio Head Alan Hartman stated on Microsoft’s Xbox Wire site. Forza Horizon 3 also now has over 14m players, with over 3m joining each month.

"Additionally, our online racing community expanded significantly: over three million players joined us online each month and we launched theForza Racing Championship, an eSports league for players of all skill levels to compete for glory and real-world prizes."

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer added: Since the beginning, Forza has combined stunning graphics, racing’s leading simulation engine, and an emphasis on fun and accessibility. Forza Horizon 3 has been a great success for Xbox One, so much so that the title’s now headlining one of Microsoft’s newest official Xbox One S bundles alongside Halo Wars 2.

MCV’s sister site Develop also recently went on a studio visit to Forza Horizon 3 developers Playground Games, where it learned the company was working to expand its current team with a whole new division. The new team will be working on a brand-new non-racing title, but it’s currently unknown what that new game will be. Head over to Develop to read the full interview.
