Free music coming for Xbox Live users

Microsoft is set to use Xbox Live to offer free, exclusive music to Xbox 360 owners.

The online service, called Ignition, has been created to give exposure to artists, reports Reuters.

The initiative will also be available via Microsoft’s MSN service and portable media player Zune.

UK band Maximo Park are the first act to provide music on the service, with a track which will be made available for download free through Xbox Live Marketplace.

Microsoft will host online listening parties of the act's current album on MSN Music and provide a custom website dedicated to the band and its activities on the Zune.net site.
