Free Xbox 360 game Happy Wars scores 2m players

Xbox Live’s first free-to-play title Happy Wars has amassed over 2m players worldwide since launch.

Developer Toylogic announced the figure as it rolls out a new content update designed to secure even more players.

I’m so excited that more than two million people love Happy Wars. I hope all of our players enjoy this update,” said Happy Wars game director Yoichi Take.

We always continue to make improvements on improvement to have millions Happy Wars fans be happy. We’d like to continue to deliver additional updates in the future.”

Happy Wars debuted in October as Xbox Live’s first microtransaction-based title. The game costs nothing to play, though players can purchase Happy Tickets” with real money to upgrade the equipment and appearance of characters.

An Xbox Live Gold subscription is required to play.

More free-to-play titles are launching on consoles this year, while the free-to-play business model is already a possibility on Sony’s next machine, and probably Microsoft’s next Xbox, too.
