Further job losses at troubled Nokia

Nokia has announced that a further 490 employees will be joining the 3,500 who have already lost their jobs as the telephony behemoth attempts to head off an anticipated decline in the mobile market.

Reuters reports that 170 positions are to be lost in logistics, production management and production support whilst a further 320 employees from its Finnish Salo plant are to be offered voluntary redundancy.

The move comes after heavy job losses earlier in the year. 2009 has been extremely turbulent for the company, with April brining confirmation of a 90 per cent slump in annual profits.

There’s also concern surrounding the firm’s N-Gage brand, which looks set to lose to its own identity and become enveloped in Nokia’s Apple App Store rival Ovi.
