The publisher's current range of games mags are not involved in the cull. However, publications such as DJ, Home Entertainment Week, Total Mobile and Total BMW are awaiting their fate. Future is yet to fully debrief staff on each publication's destiny.
“It’s about investing in more profitable areas, such as games,” James Binns, group publisher for Bath-based games titles at Future, told MCV. “We need to spend more online, for example, which we can’t do when we’re distracted by stuff that isn’t making us money.”
Binns confirmed the first fruits of Future's online push will be tech.co.uk, a new technology website that launches this winter.
He added the company’s contract business is “going great guns” following the announcement of HMV’s new in-store magazine, which hits stores tomorrow.
