Chris Bell will become GAME's new non-executive chairman on June 15th. He takes over from current chairman Peter Lewis, who is retiring.
Bell has been a member of the GAME board since 2003 and currently acts as senior independent director. His previous employers include Ladbrokes and Allied Domecq.
"Under Peter's tenure GAME has been transformed from a chain of around 130 outlets into the UK's leading specialist video games retailer," group chief exec Ian Shepherd stated.
"Peter oversaw both the Group's substantial expansion in the UK and its international growth.
"The changes in GAME's scale and operating structure were accompanied by substantial technological advances and a step change in the appeal of PC and video games to a much broader audience. Peter was instrumental in navigating the business through these developments, and leaves the company with a solid platform for further growth and channel development in a market which is continuing to address the changing needs of our customers.
"On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Peter for his tremendous support and contribution to the business over the years."
Lewis himself added: "I am delighted that Chris Bell will be appointed as the new Chairman. It has been an immense privilege to serve the group as chairman over the last 13 years.
"During this time our two biggest challenges, the pace of technological change and the expectations of our customers, have continued to accelerate. The group has evolved with them, and is positioned at the forefront of innovation with a clear plan and the right team. Chris Bell and Ian Shepherd are a strong combination, with Chris's longstanding experience and network in the investor and business communities, and Ian's extensive experience in the consumer technology sector and CRM."
And of his new role, Bell said: "I thank Peter for his guidance over the years at GAME and wish him the very best. Ian and the team are following a sound and promising strategy to build on their customer focus and firmly establish GAME as a multi channel retailer."
