GAME plans further Gamestation consolidation

GAME is proposing to close its York-based Call Centre and Refurbishment premises and move them to its central offices in Basingstoke, MCV can confirm.

The retailer is also planning to restructure some departments at its HQ in Basingstoke as part of the consolidation.

GAME this morning told MCV that 83 out of 460 jobs are at risk, including 43 roles in York and 40 positions in Basingstoke.

The Group says it is ‘committed to redeploying roles wherever possible, and has started consulting with affected employees.’

GAME obtained the York facilities following the acquisition of Gamestation in May 2007.

The firm has since moved some Gamestation operations to its HQ in Basingstoke, with head office staff moving down there last year. At the time, GAME said the better alignment of its brands would save the Group millions in costs.

The company says today’s announced move is due to tougher market conditions.

While our business has continued to outperform the video games market, we are facing tougher market conditions entering 2010, and must make sure we operate as efficiently as possible while delivering the high standards of service our customers demand,” said the retailer in a statement.
