There was a similarly impressive performance over Christmas, where the group’s overall like-for-like sales grew by 15.6 per cent in the six weeks ending January 6th compared to the same period last year. This was bettered in the UK and Ireland where like-for-like sales grew by 16.6 per cent.
"We have traded well and gained good momentum throughout this year which has reinforced our position as Europe's leading specialist retailer of PC and videogames," said GAME chairman Peter Lewis. "Our Christmas sales performance was excellent particularly given the very strong comparatives for the previous year when the Microsoft Xbox 360 launched.
“This year there was strong demand for all formats, in particular for the Nintendo DS Lite and the most recent market entrant, the Nintendo Wii. We look forward to the much anticipated launch of PS3 in 2007.”
In other achievements over Christmas, total group sales climbed by 20.9 per cent, total UK and Ireland sales grew by 16.4 per cent and overall sales in continental Europe grew by 35.8 per cent, with a like-for-like jump of 11.8 per cent.
