Games market continues summer decline; Watch Dogs still No.1

The market took another dive this week thanks to the current heat wave, a lack of new releases and the start of the summer holidays.

Overall the market fell three per cent this week. The amount of revenue made this week was the lowest it has been this year so far, while the number of units sold was the second lowest year-to-date.

Watch Dogs holds onto the top spot of the UKIE GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40 with a three per cent rise in sales.

This makes it the sixth week Ubisoft’s hacking IP has been at No.1. It is just one week from equaling FIFA 14’s seven-week run on top this year. EA’s football title remains at No.2 with a five per cent sales increase. 

Warner Bros’ The LEGO Movie Videogame jumps seven places up the charts to No.5 as a result of its film counterpart coming to stores last week.

But that isn’t the most remarkable feat in the charts this week – EA’s Skate 3 is now at No.25 having seen a 17 per cent increase in sales this week.

This game came out in 2010 and returned to the charts this year after being featured by a prominent YouTuber. It has now been in the Top 40 for 17 weeks in 2014.
