Games Media Awards 2011 - The winners are revealed

IGN, Edge, Eurogamer, The Guardian and Shortlist were amongst the key winners at this year's Games Media Awards.

Taking place at Vinopolis near Borough Market last night, the event saw some 17 print publications, 20 websites, podcasts and blogs, plus 26 individual writers, compete for the top honours. 300 media and PR execs were in attendance to see the winners revealed.

Colin Campbell was named Games Media Legend. Campbell's career began 25 years ago as a staff writer on CTW, before joining Future to work on a string of titles, including Commodore Format and Amiga Power. He also became publisher of Future's console mags, including Edge, Sega Power and GamesMaster, he also launched Official PlayStation Magazine.

Since that time he's worked as editor-in-chief of Next Generation Online and IGN, written for The Guardian, launched Official Xbox Magazine, and worked for Intent Media and Gamasutra. He is currently head of news and features at IGN in San Francisco.

Other major winners on the night (See The Winners in Full, below) were voted for by a panel of judges that includes key media, games industry execs and PR professionals.

Edge reclaimed its place as the top games magazine, while Eurogamer once again was named best games website.
The fiercely contest specialist writer prizes saw popular Christian Donlan win for his print work, while IGN's Keza MacDonald won for her online coverage.

The Guardian was triumphant in the national newspaper category, while Shortlist won for best mainstream magazine.

Elsewhere, Dave Cook of The Scotsman was crowned best regional games columnist, best blog was awarded to Rock Paper Shotgun, VideoGamer's Martin Gaston was named Rising Star, while SentUAMessage was crowned best games broadcast.

Grainger Games was the headline sponsor for the Games Media Awards, with other sponsors  including Microsoft, Codemasters, EA, Sony, Ubisoft, Nintendo, OnLive, Namco Bandai, Trion Worlds, Gamescom, Nordic Games, Konami, Sega, NC Soft, Rising Star Games, Green Man Gaming, Games Tribe, 2K Games and Venatus Media.
