Online indie ShopTo named the best Independent Retailer at this year’s MCV Industry Excellence Awards following a very busy 12 months for the firm.

The company launched an iPhone app – which has now been downloaded over 70,000 times – as well as a five-minute warehouse dispatch system. It also launched a news website and is now advertising on TV.
ShopTo has a strong hardcore gamer following.

Blockbuster

This rental giant has had a tough time in the US following its bankruptcy last year.

The UK arm was unaffected, but the entire business was bought in April by US satellite giant Dish Network. In the buying team, Megan Bennett has departed, with two new buyers stepping in – Paul Ranyard and Steve Savage.

Best Buy

US big box retailer Best Buy opened its first stores in the UK last year.

However, the firm’s European strategy is under review after posting an overall loss of £62m. Its home theatre and entertainment division is headed up by Rob Wilkins.
