Hundreds of PC titles are available on the new games-on-demand service, including very recent hit titles such as Colin McCrae Dirt, Rainbow Six Vegas and Clive Barker’s Jericho – all of which will be supported by online promotion and regular newsletters.
Gameseek believes that while a predicted increase in popularity of downloadable games won’t cause a total shake-up of the retail sector, this increase in services will have an effect on sales of new releases on the High Street.
“I think it’s inevitably going to increase. However I do believe there will be a share of gamers who want games-on-demand and those who like to collect and hold onto the original retail boxed version. For this reason the retail landscape will not dramatically change. However I would expect lesser sales on some new releases,” said Stephen Staley, managing director of Gameseek.
“Of course accessories and hardware can’t be downloaded, so there will always be a big demand for these items.
“Basically, by offering both boxed products and games-on-demand, we are giving the consumer choice. Gameseek will continue to offer boxed products at great prices.”
