Gamestations April Fools stunt

UK video games retailer Gamestation made a notable and obscure acquisition last week – namely, the immortal souls” of 7,500 of its customers.

It’s all to do with the retailer’s latest April Fools joke that saw an additional clause entered into its online terms and conditions. The note stated that all those who signed up agreed to grant Gamestation the right to ‘claim their immortal soul’.

Customers who spotted the amendment were able to tick an opt-out box and were offered a 5 voucher as reward.

And for those who didn’t? Well, dems da breaks.

In actuality, Gamestation has subsequently emailed customers to inform them that all claims to their soul have been nullified – and to remind them that reading T&C’s is in general quite a good idea.

Based on an average days trading, we expect to acquire hundreds of souls as customers continually ignore the small print,” Gamestation’s online general manager Steve Wind-Mozley stated, though Videogames Republic reckons 7,500 were duped by the ruse.
