Slower sales of hardware were blamed on the dip, but overall Gamestop enjoyed a decent quarter. Sales rose 8.2% to $1.83 billion, while profits rose from $46.7 million to $52.2 million.
As the economy suffered, used game sales were up 20 percent, but new game sales also saw a jump of nearly 10 percent. Even so, almost half of the firm’s profits came from second-hand games.
Top sellers for the quarter were Madden NFL 10, Halo 3: ODST, Batman: Arkham Asylum, NBA 2K10 and Wii Sports Resort.
