GameTech 2011 hailed a success, plans 2012 event

The GameTech 2011 event attracted over 100 executives and professionals from within the Australian games industry when it was held at Luna Park in Sydney in late June.

After more than six months of planning the event alongside the iGEA and GDAA, Connect Events has confirmed to MCV Pacific that they have begun planning a second event for 2012.

Dominic Patterson, director of Connect Events says: “The interactive entertainment industry is at an exciting point in its evolution. Thanks to the important work of the IGEA and the GDAA the local industry has a strong voice, and we hope that Gametech continues to provide an effective forum for this industry dialogue.”

Key speakers at the GameTech 2011 event included Ed Fong (Managing director of Ubisoft Australia), Bryan Neider (Senior VP and COO of the EA Games label - pictured), Brendan O'Connor (Federal minister for home affairs) and Michael Ephraim (head of Sony Computer Entertainment for ANZ).

Speakers addressed broad topics, from the rise of mobile gaming to the need for an R18+ rating in Australia.

Ron Curry, CEO of the iGEA, comments: “Game Tech provided a forum where the wider industry involved in video gaming came together to share ideas and perspectives, along with the chance to network. iGEA welcomed this opportunity and looks forward to future events where this concept is developed and refined further.”
