Since releasing multiplayer maps Raven Down and Old Bones through Xbox Live, 750,000 gamers have downloaded the expansion, contributing to the total 1.5 million downloads of all Gears content through Xbox Marketplace.
The accolades continue to roll in for Gears of War, with the title even exciting critics in Japan, with respected magazine and MCV media partner Famitsu rewarding the title a Platinum award – a rare feat for a ‘western’ title. It has also gained over 20 nominations for game of the year by other media outlets.
Meanwhile the title’s advertising campaign has also received praise, with its Gears of Wars: Mad World ad named by Advertising Age as one of the top creative concepts of the year, having attracted 2.4 million views online.
“Like blockbuster titles from Microsoft's Halo franchise and the Grand Theft Auto and Zelda franchises, Gears of War is tracking to be one of the best-selling video games of all time and has established itself as the most successful new IP of the next generation,” said a rather chuffed Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of global marketing, interactive entertainment business entertainment and devices division at Microsoft.
