GMA 2011: Another trophy for Edge

Future Publishing took home just one Games Media Award last night – but it was one of the most coveted.

Its long-running high-end multiformat mag Edge was named best Games Magazine at a central London celebration of the games media.

The Bath-based magazine has in fact won the prize a number of times before, including the 2009 GMA for Best Magazine and, prior to that, an MCV Industry Excellence Award for Best Editorial Team.

Long-running editor Tony Mott collected the prize, handed out at a ceremony held at London’s Vinopolis. He thanked the rest of his editorial team – who were unable to attend the event – and other GMA winner and Edge contributor Christan Donlan, for the win.

The Games Media Awards are hosted every year by Intent Media, the publisher of leading trade publications MCV and Develop.

Grainger Games was headline sponsor. Trion Games sponsored the pre-event party, and Namco Bandai sponsored the after-party, during which Rockaoke was presented by We Sing (Nordic Games).

Gold partners were Xbox 360 (Microsoft), Codemasters, Battlefield 3 (EA), PS Vita (Sony), Ubisoft, Super Mario (Nintendo) and OnLive.

Silver partners were Namco Bandai and Capcom (sponsors of the after-party), Trion Worlds (pre-drinks event sponsor), Gamescom and We Sing (Nordic Games) which sponsored the after-event bandaoke.

PES 2012 (Konami), Sonic Generations (Sega), NC Soft, Rising Star Games, Green Man Gaming, The Games Tribe, The Darkness II (2K Games) and Venatus Media each sponsored individual awards.
