Google announces Star Wars: The Force Awakens VR ‘experience’

Disney and Google have teamed up to promote upcoming movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens with a virtual reality app designed for Google Cardboard.

Google says it will feature the first-of-its-kind serialized Google Cardboard experience that combines a compelling story, which ties directly into the opening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with the very latest cutting-edge Virtual Reality technology”.

It will be available within the official Star Wars app on both iOS and Android.

Wired adds that the content will come in the form of two films, both of which were created by Industrial Light & Magic, LucasFilm and Skywalker Sounds entertainment lab. It seems that the films may present an in-battle experience featuring Stormtroopers and TIE Fighters, experienced from the viewpoint from someone adept at using the Force.

Google has also launched Google.com/starwars, which allows users to choose between the Dark Side or the Light Side of the Force. A host of Google apps, such as Gmail, are then suitably themed as a result.
