Grand Theft Auto V on track to become highest rated game of all time

Only one other game has ever settled on a 98 per cent average on reviews aggregation site Metacritic – can you guess what it is?

Yes, it’s Grand Theft Auto IV. And it now looks as if its successor Grand Theft Auto V is on track to join it.

Almost 24 hours after the global review embargo lifted yesterday afternoon the Xbox 360 version currently sits on 98 per cent, with the PS3 version on 97 per cent.

GTA V has won an astonishing 37 10/10 reviews so far, with plenty of time left for more.

Only three other games have ever won a 97 per cent average – Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3.

A host of titles sit on 96 per cent including Half-Life 2, BioShock, Uncharted 2, Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Resident Evil 4.
