Gree opening studio in Vancouver

Perpetually growing mobile games company Gree has unveiled plans for a new studio located in Vancouver.

The new western branch of the company would be focused on the free-to-play in the mobile gaming department. Gree also owns a studio in San Francisco following the acquisition of Funzio.

The news has to be well received for a city that has seen lay-offs in the developer community far too oftenover the past few months.

"The goal for the Canadian studio is to merge the knowledge we gained from our recent successes with more experimental approaches," said studio head and former VP of consumer operations Steve Lin.

"We want to take some risks and come up with new games and ideas that will contribute to the ongoing evolution of the mobile game space."
