GTA III helps Take-Two make $26m in digital

Grand Theft Auto III: 10th Anniversary Edition on iOS and Android generated the bulk of $26m in digital revenues for Take-Two in its fiscal Q3.

Overall net revenues for the Rockstar and 2K parent stood at $236.3m for the three months ending December 31st, as reported by MCV earlier.

However, 11 per cent of this figure came from sales of downloadable games and content – equating to $25.982m. Take-Two says this was driven mainly by downloadable Grand Theft Auto content, specifically the 10th Anniversary Edition of Grand Theft Auto III. This arrived on the iPhone and iPad App Stores as well as Android devices in mid-December.

A Take-Two earnings statement read: “Digitally delivered content accounted for 11 per cent of net revenue, driven by offerings for the Grand Theft Auto franchise – particularly the Grand Theft Auto III - 10th Anniversary Edition for iOS and Android, Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands and L.A. Noire.”

Take-Two reported profits of $14.2m for its fiscal Q3 – a drop of 65 per cent year-on-year. The firm expects its fiscal 2013 to be one of its ‘best years ever’, hinting at a Christmas release for Grand Theft Auto V.
