Take-Two can deny the claims until it’s blue in the face, but analysts are seemingly unwilling to believe that Grand Theft Auto V is not in the works – and now one has gone a step further by predicting a full reveal for the title in the coming weeks.
“There is building suspension for a pre-E3 GTA V announcement, although we expect nothing from Rockstar at this year’s official E3 event,” Janco Partners; Mike Hickey told IndustryGamers.
“GTA is one of those franchises that's so huge that Rockstar doesn't even need to do it at E3; Rockstar and Take-Two could hold their own event and announce the title in the days leading right up to E3, when many publishers often do hold separate press events.
“We think the next iteration of GTA for console can significantly outsell its predecessor, reflecting on the sales acceleration of the prior cycle GTA console iterations, an accelerating core gamer installed base (with an emphasis on PS3 installed expansion where GTA has historically dominated relatively), and the most talented / motivated development team in the world, in our view.”
Take-Two recently revealed that sales of Grand Theft Auto IV have now reached 15m worldwide and with publisher reporting another quarter of losses, it’s easy to see why some are coming to the conclusion that Take-Two may be looking to ramp up its GTA production line.
Saying that, the firm has been pretty clear in the past that it has no plans to make the series an annual franchise, stating that it’s a “strong franchise that it doesn’t need annual releases”.
