Halo: Reach tops US purchase intent list

Halo: Reach is the most anticipated upcoming game in the US, racking up the highest purchase intent rating among consumers.

The Bungie title topped the GamePlan Insights charts for upcoming games, with fellow Microsoft releases Gears of War 3 and Fable III in third and fourth respectively, according to Gamasutra.

While Reach upstaged Gears, the report shows there in a large overlap between the two audiences. 52 per cent of those who plan to buy Halo are also looking to pick up gears of War, while 51 per cent of Gears fans also intent to purchase Reach.

Nintendo also fared well, with next month’s Super Mario Galaxy 2 in second and the next Legend of Zelda game in fifth. In fact, the top six games were all first-party exclusives, with Sony’s Gran Turismo 5 in sixth.

The tracking data shows that nearly one in four Wii owners intend to buy Galaxy 2. The game also boasted the highest Recession Proof Index out of the games being tracked, meaning that consumers most frequently chose the upcoming Mario title as a Top Three potential purchase.
