Hasbro backing Fall of Cybertron with new action figures

Activision and Hasbro have cleverly identified a great cross-market opportunity by announcing a range of toys to accompany upcoming release Transformers: Fall of Cybertron.

Eight action figures have been announced so far, the most notable of which is undoubtedly the huge combiner Bruticus figure, which is comprised of five Combaticons.

Those of a certain age will remember some of the famous Transformers combiner figures from the ‘80s, which saw five individual robots combining to form a single, bigger robot. The most popular example of a Combiner is Devastator, who is made up of the six Constructicons.

This new Bruticus combiner is made of five deluxe size figures, meaning it will potentially be the largest official combiner ever released and the first ‘proper’ example since the early ‘90s.

Third party unofficial combiners made in China can currently fetch around £300 online.

Three other figures have also been revealed – Autobots Optimus Prime and Jazz as well as the Decepticon Shockwave. The latter model also shows some savvy from Hasbro – there have been very few examples of Shockwave released since the ‘80s original, and is bound to become highly collectible.

Activision also teamed up with Hasbro for a range of action figures associated with previous console release War for Cybertron.

However, perhaps buoyed by the huge success that has been Skylanders, these new figures suggest that both companies realise the opportunities presented by tapping into the wider collectible markets.
