Publishers must make sales figures of downloadable games public if the industry is to prosper.
That’s the call from Geoff Heath OBE, who says “a collective source of market data will allow trends to be spotted, opportunities to be taken and will ultimately lead to a stronger market for the whole industry.”
The veteran – who founded Activision Europe – told MCV: “How big is the digital market? Are apps really making money? How will console-based digital sales develop?
“We as the games industry hold the key ourselves; we are the very source of this data and we need to start sharing it.”
Companies who share data with UKIE can already see a snapshot of the PC digital market.
“From PC UKIE will go on to cover Xbox Live, PSN, Android and app stores and other digital distribution platforms,” added Heath.
