Heroes of the Dorm eSports tournament to be broadcast on ESPN

A tournament that sees American and Canadian university students compete in Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm MOBA will be televised on ESPN in the region.

Up for grabs in Heroes of the Dorm is over $450k in tuition fee contributions, with the winning team receiving contributions of up to $25k per year for the remainder of their time at university. Senior and graduate students will receive a contribution toward their student loan repayments.

The competition will kick off on March 28th and culminate in late April. It will be the first time EPSN has broadcast a collegiate eSports event. The network will make the content available both online and via TV via its multi-screen offer.

Back in September ESPN president John Skipper went on record as saying eSports is not a sport”, saying instead that it was a competition” akin to something like chess.

However, other noises from the network have been more receptive toward eSports and it was reported earlier that year that ESPN was looking to expand its eSports coverage.
