Last week, we reported that Sony had raised prices for upcoming first-party PS3 games. Sony India has now said that the impact of foreign exchange rates is to blame for the increase.
The move had raised a few eyebrows as, unlike third-party games, which are imported, Sony’s PS3 games are manufactured in India and therefore aren't impacted as much by the depreciating value of the Rupee.
However, Sony Computer Entertainment India country manager Atindriya Bose has said that even locally manufactured games are impacted by foreign exchange changes.
“While local production provides us certain benefits in terms of tax structure and manufacturing costs, the impact of foreign exchange rate still remains largely present on the overall cost structure and realisation from the market,” Bose said.
Beyond: Two Souls and Gran Turismo 6, which were earlier priced Rs 2,999, are now listed at Rs 3,499.
