iGEA hosts inaugural industry soccer tournament

The Interactive Games and Entertainment Association (iGEA) has held its first industry soccer tournament in Sydney, with 15 teams from local publishers, colleges and more in attendance.

The day was a mixture of teams who were just kicking a ball around and having fun, and teams who had been practising for weeks. EA registered two teams entered after having internal tryouts, and won the tournament on the day it launched its football mega-property: FIFA 12.

Ron Curry, CEO of the iGEA, told MCV: "In spite of impending storms we had an almost 100% attendance at the inaugural iGEA Football (Soccer) Tournament. On display was some outstanding football skills and equally as impressive choice of playing strips (thanks to the MCV team)."

The final game saw 'EA One' and Ubisoft face off, with EA taking the title 8 points to 7 and it all coming down to penalties. Third place went to GAME.

Curry continued: "It was impressive to see the level of participation, competitiveness, skill and fitness that exists within the industry.  Even our non-regular players were happy to put on their shin pads (in a variety of ways) in the name of fun."

"iGEA greatly enjoyed connecting with both our Members and the wider industry in a more social setting and we look forward to hosting more tournaments in the future. It was fitting that on the day FIFA 12 released that EA should take out the inaugural winner’s trophy."

Thanks to IGN for providing the bar on the day.
