iPad 3 officially unveiled

Apple has just announced the new iPad complete with a host of new features and goodies.

As rumored, the new iPad packs 'Retina Display', a new mobile chip, a significant camera upgrade, and more.

"The new iPad has a Retina Display. 2048x1536. The best mobile display that has ever shipped," Senior VP of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller explained at Apple's press event in San Francisco today.

That resolution boasts a pixel density of 264ppi, which means you can't distinguish individual pixels when held at 10 inches.

It also features the A5X mobile chip with a new quad-core graphics processor, which Apple claims is four times as fast as the Tegra 3.

"The Apple A5 was already twice as fast. This is a graphics powerhouse."

A new iSight camera has been included as well. It's the same as the camera built into the iPhone 4S which includes auto-exposure, auto-focus, and 5 megapixel backside-illuminated sensor with 1080p video — a huge upgrade from the rest of the tablet market.

What is it all going to cost though?

The 16GB will go for $499, 32GB for $599, and 64GB for $699. 'The new iPad' (as it's constantly being referred to by Apple, as opposed to iPad 3) will arrive on March 16th, with pre-orders for the new device opening today.
