Apple has unveiled the iPad Air, a redesigned full-size tablet launching worldwide on November 1st.

The firm showcased the device at an event this week, where it also announced a new iPad Mini with retina display and new Mac OSX hardware.

The iPad Air holds the same display of 9.7 inches, but has a 43 per cent smaller bezel versus previous models. At 7.5mm thick, the tablet is 20 per cent thinner and nearly half a pound lighter than its predecessors.

Apple claims that the graphics performance of the Air is 72 times faster than the first generation iPad and twice as fast as the device's most recent generation.

The new iPad Mini 7.9-inch tablet will have retina display on-board and its graphics processing runs up to eight times faster than the original. It will be available "later” in November, according to Apple.

The iPad Air will assume the price of the previous iPad model at $499, while the new iPad Mini goes for $399 – both will be available in black, white, silver and space gray. The original iPad Mini will still be available at a lowered price of $299.
