JAPAN: 3DS tops 1m sales

The Nintendo 3DS has sold more than one million units in Japan.

It has taken 13 weeks for the firm’s latest handheld to reach this milestone since its launch in February, according to CVG.

The original DS topped 1m sales in just one month after its launch, with the DS Lite and DSi managed it in two.

However, the 3DS still outperforms the DSi XL (or DSi LL, as it’s known in Japan), which took 25 weeks to rack up the same level of sales.

Reasons for the 3DS’ seemingly slow sales in the region have previously been attributed to public confusion about the device, the effects of the Japanese earthquake in March and a lack of must-have titles for the device.
