JAPAN: Wii Party tops charts

Blending the gameplay of Mario Party 8 with the Mii characters of Wii Play has paid off for Nintendo – Wii Party went straight to the top of the Japanese charts this week.

The game sold 235,000 copies putting it one place ahead of White Knight Chronicles on PS3 with 176,000 units sold. In comparison Super Mario Galaxy 2 saw 340,000 first-week sales when it was released in May.

Wii Party allows players to move around a game board and take part in a variety of motion-controlled mini-games.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata previously said the game will hit UK shelves before March 31st, 2011.

Here’s this week’s Japan Top Ten:

– White Knight Chronicles II (PS3) – 176,000 units sold
– Inazuma Eleven 3: Sekai e no Chousen (DS) – 98,000 units sold
– Bokujou Monogatari: Futago no Mura (DS) – 64,000 units sold
– Taiko no Tatsujin DS: Dororon! Youkai Daikessen (DS) – 31,000 units sold
– Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii) – 26,000 units sold
– Crackdown 2 (Xbox 360) – 15,000 units sold
– Tomodachi Collection (DS) – 13,000 units sold
– World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010: Aoki Samurai no Chousen (PS3) – 12,000 units sold
– World Soccer Winning Eleven 2010: Aoki Samurai no Chousen (PSP) – 12,000 units sold
