Jonathan Blow is most definitely working hard on The Witness

Are you familiar with the word ‘crunch’?

In game development terms, it refers to a period typically approaching the release of a title when deadlines are approaching so rapidly that coders are forced to work all hours of the day, sometimes for weeks or months at a time, in order to get the game finished.

Tales of crunch involve shenanigans such as getting little to no sleep or kipping under the desk, not seeing your family – that sort of thing. In Jonathan Blow’s case it also means cutting down on toilet breaks.

Blow’s The Witness comes out next Tuesday. And it seems that even an eight year development cycle isn’t enough to avoid a last minute rush. Unless, y’know, it is actually just a mechanism through which Blow can easily access apple juice.
