It didn’t quite nab the PS3 crown, however, having to settle for second place the fastest selling stakes behind Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
Guerrilla Games’ shooter is Sony’s first All Formats number one for nearly two years, with the last being PS2 brawler God of War 2 in April 2007.
And Microsoft has reason to cheer, too – Halo Wars might have failed to get anywhere near Halo 3’s week one numbers (managing to capture just 17.6 per cent of its sales) but its sales better those of the previous best-selling console RTS, EA’s Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, by a ratio of three-to-one.
