Kinect priced at £130

Microsoft has at last announced an official price for Kinect – and it’s come in at the top end of the UK industry’s estimates.

The standalone device will retail for 129.99 and will include a copy of Kinect Adventures in the box. In Europe it will cost €149.99 and in the US $149.99.

In addition, a bundle containing Kinect, the game and the new Xbox 360 4GB will retail for 249.99/€299.99/$299.99.

Microsoft has also confirmed that Kinect-only titles will carry an RRP of 39.99 – between 10 and 15 less than ‘proper’ Xbox 360 titles.

A 130 RRP had been rumoured for some time now, though major UK retailers had been vocal in their desire to see the camera come in at far below that mark – preferably somewhere below 100.

Indeed, online retailer ShopTo had admitted that pre-orders for the device – which had been taken at 129.99 – were very low”, adding that the potential price was too high”.

Kinect for Xbox 360 offers tremendous entertainment value, transforming our living rooms into fitness classes, dance clubs and sports stadiums through full body, voice and multiplayer games,” Microsoft Europe’s VP of interactive entertainment business Chris Lewis stated.

Whether you’re new to Xbox 360 or an existing console owner, we’re committed to offering Kinect experiences that offer controller-free fun and entertainment right out of the box and these unique products and retail offers provide the most complete and affordable way for everyone to enjoy Kinect this Christmas.”
