Konami green lights Metal Gear remake for Steam

Developer collective The Outer Heaven says that Konami has given it permission to re-make 1987’s original Metal Gear.

A few days ago, we received word from Konami that said they were happy for us to go-ahead with our remake of the classic MSX game, Metal Gear, as long as we don’t abuse the copyright issues (i.e. make a profit from the project/take donations),” the team claimed.

As such the developers are now on the hunt for extra talent, details of which can be found here.

One of the developers, Ian Ratcliffe, outlined the scale of the project to Polygon.

"The game will be a full remake of the original game, new script, new models, the works. The theme compositions will also be revamped with orchestral arrangements and with the Metal Gear Solid 2 style electronic beats.

"The style of the game will be reworked, bringing it more up-to-date with the other games in the series, we’re still undecided on some aspects, like what style to have the camera angles, birdseye view or the more traditional Metal Gear Solid/Metal Gear Solid 2 style.

"It’s excellent that a company that huge, would let us do such a thing, we’re very grateful.”
