LA Noire sells 4m, Duke Nukem hits profit, diversity promised

Following a quarter of decline for the publisher, Take-Two has pledged future diversity in its software offerings.

That’s not to say the period was without success. Recent release LA Noire has now sold 4m units, though considering Rockstar has been bankrolling that game for half a decade it’s unknown whether that equates to a profit.

Red Dead Redemption has now sold 11m units worldwide and NBA 2K11 5.5m.

Interestingly, Take-Two has also said that the now infamous console release Duke Nukem Forever, with CEO Strauss Zelnick stating that despite its disappointing reviews,Duke Nukem Forever was profitable for Take-Two".

So how is Take-Two looking to improve? Diversity. And that’s a big word for a publisher that is more or less entrenched in the sandbox, FPS and sports genres.

"We’re focused on building new franchises, diversifying our approach,” Zelnick added. For example, you can look at whatRed Dead Redemptiondid for us in our last fiscal year.”

He did, however, go on to urge caution in the social gaming sector. Despite big plans for Civilization on Facebook and some strong releases on iOS, the company remains committed to console gaming.
